Events for July
Cherokee Bonfire
Date(s): Jul 01, 2019 - Jul 06, 2019
When: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Where: At the Intersection of 441 and Hwy 19 in Oconaluftee Island Park

Amazing tales as told by the Cherokee storytellers themselves. Imagine you’re gathered around a roaring bonfire, the occasional spark shooting high into the night sky, as a strong but gentle voice begins a story you’ve never heard. As the drama builds, you’re nearly breathless, your own heartbeat matching the occasional beat of the hand drum the storyteller uses. Drawing from a rich oral tradition dating back millennia, the Cherokee Bonfire series runs throughout the tourism season, and is an enchanting way to interact with the rich details of the Cherokee people and their stories. Get your room reserved in Cherokee, grab a blanket and someone close to you, and enjoy a cultural experience only Cherokee can offer.
The Bonfire stories crackle from 7:00–9:00 p.m. on the following dates at Oconaluftee Islands Park, on Tsali Blvd.: Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays, May 22 - October 12. Expanded schedule for July 1-6. No bonfires in September.

Music on the River
Date(s): Jul 04, 2019
When: 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Where: Water Beetle Stage beside the Welcome Center on Tsali Blvd.

Enjoy free, open-air musical performances by the river in downtown Cherokee. Performances include rock n’ roll, blues, jazz, gospel and country, and are staged near local eateries, and shopping, with room to dance along. Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 4 through July 30.

Freedom Fest & Fireworks
Date(s): Jul 04, 2019
When: 10:00 am - 10:30 pm
Where: Downtown Bryson City

Spend your Fourth of July in a small town that celebrates big! Our old fashioned street festival begins with a dedication by the local VFW Post and continues with great music throughout the day. The music is complemented by an amazing array of handcrafted arts and a children's area that is sure to keep the little ones occupied. And don't forget the P.A.W.S. dog show, and fun contests. Stay for the full day or return later to enjoy the headliner show at 8pm followed by the spectacular fireworks show at 10pm.
